Description
Aucoustic duet at Ardenwood regional Park in Newark California. Ardenwood is a pretty cool place - an old patch of farming land from the Gold Rush era. The owner tried his hand at gold mining and gave it up as "too hard" - he realized the miners were going to need food so he began to buy up land (while working for others) and eventually owned several thousand acres. He made a fortune selling his grain, eggs and meat to the miners and built a large 3-story Queen Anne Victorian home. You can tour the home today. On weekends there are usually all kinds of performers or vendors on site - such as the aucoustic duet in this picture. Sometimes they fire up the old steam tractors and run the harvesting equipment (all from the 1800s). I've seen local honey producers, women making old fashioned lace and others spinning wool. There is a horse drawn "train" and a teaching center for families to stay a few days at a time to experience "life on the farm" from the 1880s. My kids loved going there when they were young. They especially liked the hand cranked ice cream demonstration cause they got to eat the product after they turned the crank a few times...
